Comcast’s New Streaming Service, Peacock, is a Welcome Addition in Our Home

I was invited to join a Zoom call with executives from Comcast’s Greater Boston region and New England-based influencers to learn about the newest company initiatives and offerings.

One of the new products that I was excited to learn more about it Peacock, Comcast’s new streaming service. It features on-demand libraries with 15,000 hours of movies and shows, a live TV grid of 20 linear channels (like an entire channel just showing “The Office” and “Saturday Night Live”) and a trending tab on the homepage delivering current news and pop culture tidbits.

If you’re an Xfinity X1 or Flex platform customer, you may have already checked out the preview of it that’s been available since mid-April. For all others, Peacock will launch nationwide on July 15th and all current customers will get access to Peacock at no additional cost.

Here some of the cool features of Peacock that I have personally enjoyed or am excited to see introduced in the coming months:

• Nostalgic TV shows like every single episode of “Saved by The Bell,” “Cheers,” “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Care Bears” (was anyone into that show like I was growing up?).

• Original content not available on any other service like a reboot “Punky Brewster” series (Punky navigating life now as a mom!), the kids show, “Where’s Waldo?” (this is on Crew’s current watchlist) and a series called “Brave New World,” starring Demi Moore.

• Movies you may not find on other streaming services like a bunch from Alfred Hitchcock and really old classics like the original “Alice and Wonderland” from the 1930s.

Because of the stay-at-home orders these last few months, Comcast has obviously seen an increase of on-demand consumption so Peacock’s content is going to be a welcome addition for many families.

As a side note, I could tell that the Comcast executives were passionate about ensuring that what they offer people goes beyond just being a network provider. They know that they have the ability to get in front of millions of people and also have thousands of people working for them. The company just announced that they’ve committed to developing a multi-year plan that involves allocating $100 million to fight injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability. Pretty impressive!
